Mackintosh Blackie Desk Chair by Bruce Hamilton
The Blackie Desk Chair was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh circa 1903 for Walter Blackie, the publisher and owner of Hill House in Helensburgh, Scotland. Created to accompany the writing desk at Hill House, the chair reflects Mackintosh’s ability to turn even functional furniture into a highly architectural object. Its tall, rectilinear back, precise vertical rhythm, and geometric cut-out details give the piece a strong visual presence while still keeping the form disciplined and elegant.
Handmade in Glasgow using traditional cabinetmaking methods and is offered in a black lacquer finish, true to the graphic character associated with Mackintosh’s Hill House interiors. The chair works beautifully as a desk chair, accent chair, or collector’s piece, especially in interiors where sculptural form and historic modern design matter as much as function. More than a simple reproduction, it is a carefully made homage to one of Mackintosh’s most distinctive private commissions.
Hand-made by Bruce Hamilton in Glasgow, Scotland.
